Venezuela’s Acting President Rejects US Influence in Political Affairs

Venezuela’s acting president, Delcy Rodríguez, has sharply rebuked the United States, declaring that her country has “had enough” of taking orders from Washington. Her comments come amid ongoing political uncertainty following recent international interventions and domestic reforms.

Speaking to oil workers in Puerto La Cruz, Rodríguez said, “Enough already of Washington’s orders over politicians in Venezuela. Let Venezuelan politics resolve our differences and internal conflicts.” The statement underscores her administration’s determination to assert Venezuelan sovereignty and resist external pressures, even from nations that initially supported her interim leadership.

Rodríguez’s remarks follow a high-profile U.S. operation in early January that led to the capture of former President Nicolás Maduro, which escalated tensions and drew international attention to Venezuela’s political landscape. Since then, her administration has been navigating a delicate balance between maintaining relations with the United States and demonstrating independent governance.

In a significant domestic move, more than 100 political prisoners have been released, signaling efforts to address internal political grievances while consolidating the interim government’s legitimacy.

Political analysts suggest Rodríguez’s statement is a clear message that Venezuela intends to chart its own course in political and economic matters, particularly regarding oil production and national policy decisions, without being directed by foreign powers.

The acting president’s firm stance is likely to influence the evolving dynamics between Caracas and Washington, with both sides watching closely how Venezuela manages its domestic reforms and international relationships.
